Congratulations to David Bremner, who has been appointed musical director of the National Band of New Zealand. Plans are underway to assemble the band later this year, with applications open now for the country's best brass and percussion musicians to apply.
In other news: Congratulations to the young musicians who have been selected for the 2026 National Youth Brass Band.
The Youth Band will meet in Auckland from January 19 to 24, 2026. Musical Director Mark Carter, along with Assistant Director Lachan Grant, have two exciting concerts planned. The first event is a lunchtime concert at the Ellen Melville Centre in Auckland on Thursday, 22 January. The main event takes place on Saturday, 24 January, at 2:00 pm at Holy Trinity Cathedral, Auckland. The band will perform several pieces, including the Finale from Symphony No. 3 by Saint-Saens, that showcase the unique sound of a brass band and organ at the cathedral. The band's major works will be Cloudcatcher Fells and the jaunty Tam O'Shanter's Ride.
