Dale Vail is a New Zealand Composer and Trombonist from Christchurch. Dale graduated with a Bachelor of Music with first class honours from the New Zealand School of Music in Wellington at the end of 2016. As a trombonist, Dale has been successful in a variety of solo competitions, performed with a variety of professional orchestras, directed his own ensembles, and of course, performed with many brass bands. Dale’s compositional works cover many different styles of music that reflect his life as a trombonist across the spectrum from classical to jazz, set in a brass band context. Works have been performed by brass bands across the country, including Wellington Brass, Woolston Brass, National Youth Brass Bands, and the New Zealand Army Band, and Dale’s arrangements find themselves performed by professional groups of many different genres of music. Dale is currently living and studying in Melbourne, at the Australian National Academy of Music.

Dale has also performed solos with the Wellington Brass Band, National Youth Brass Band, Canterbury Brass, Nor’west Brass, and the Royal New Zealand Air Force Band, as well as regularly performing solo recitals.
