Here is a brief summary of the AGM.
Remits 1, 2 and 3 were passed. Remit 4 from North Shore Brass and Remit 5 from Buzzing Brass were lost.
Band affiliation fees: There will be a 5% increase in fees for the 2026/2027 financial year.
2026 National Contest: As previously announced, Russel Gray is the chief adjudicator for the contest. He will judge at the Australian contest over Easter before attending our contest in Wellington. We are pleased to announce that the Assistant Chief Adjudicators are Glyn and Helen Williams, formerly principal player for the Cory Band.
The Parade of Bands will be held on Friday, 10 April, starting at 1.00 pm, with the route being along the Wellington Waterford.
Also, there is a special event on Wednesday, 8 April – a FREE masterclass by world-renowned trombonist Jorgen van Rijen from 4.45pm – 6.45pm. http://www.jorgenvanrijen.com/Jorgen-van-Rijen/en-GB/home.aspx
2027 National Contest: The dates for this contest have been changed to April. The dates are Wednesday, 14, to Saturday, 17. The reason for the change is to enable the National Youth Brass Band to be part of a youth festival sponsored by the NZSO featuring the NYBB alongside the National Youth Orchestra and National Youth Choir.
The festival will be based in Wellington from 27 June to 4 July 2027 at the newly opened Wellington Town Hall (with Michael Fowler Centre as a backup). The NYBB will perform a concert at the Town Hall on Thursday, 1 July, and on Saturday, 3 July, there will be a combined concert: each group will perform a short set in the first half, and the second half will feature a combined work featuring all three groups.
Conference Workshops: It was great to have such enthusiastic engagement with these. We are very interested in hearing from you which workshop sessions you would like next. Videos of this year's workshops are available on the BBANZ Facebook page via the links below.
